I have about five really awesome books of poetry. I love entering another world by opening their pages. I’m transported. I’m inspired. Awed. Amazed. Challenged. Provoked to thought. Thought I’d share a few so that you can do the same!

Of Human Life, Henry King

Like to the falling of a star,

Or as the flights of eagles are,

Or like the fresh spring’s gaudy hue,

Or silver drops of morning dew,

Or like a wind that chafes the flood,

Or bubbles which on water stood:

Even such is man, whose borrowed light

Is straight called in, and paid to night.

The wind blows out, the bubble dies;

The spring entombed in autumn lies;

The dew dries up, the star is shot;

The flight is past- and man forgot.

There Is No Frigate Like a Book, Emily Dickinson

There is no frigate like a book

  To take us lands away,

Nor any courses like a page

  Of prancing poetry.

This traverse may the poorest take

  Without oppress of toll;

How frugal is the chariot

  That bears a human soul!

The House on the Hill, Edwin Arlington Robinson

They are all gone away,

The house is shut and still,

There is nothing more to say.

Through broken walls and gray

The winds blow bleak and shrill;

They are all gone away.

Nor is there one today

To speak them good or ill:

There is nothing more to say.

Why is it then we stray

Around that sunken sill?

They are all gone away,

And our poor fancy-play

For them is wasted skill:

There is nothing more to say.

There is ruin and decay

In the House on the Hill:

They are all gone away,

There is nothing more to say.

I know that those of you who live where the sun shines continually and the sweat pours off your face are going to read this and think, “What’s with her, anyway?” But trust me ~ too much of anything gets to be tiresome. And I am tired of the continual fog around here! Some summers aren’t bad here on the Central Coast of California. We get a little sun and a little fog. But so far this summer we’ve had mostly fog. When you wake up to overcast skies everyday, it does get a little depressing.  My rose bushes aren’t looking too perky and the lemon tree my husband planted isn’t doing a thing. Not even the birds look very happy. lol

I found a poem that kinda sums it all up: FOG, by Carl Sandburg

The fog comes

on little cat feet.

It sits looking

over harbor and city

on silent haunches

and then, moves on.

Only, lately ~ the fog here doesn’t seem to be moving on!!

Broken Inside

Broken dreams

Broken heart

What’s it all about?

Where do I go

When life hurts

When one door after another

slams shut in my life

Makes no sense

Leaves me baffled

Where do I go?

I go to the Rock!!

when will I write???

My third novel is just sitting there looking lost & alone. I’ve haven’t picked it up or given it a second thought in weeks. I just can’t seem to motivate myself to write. What’s up with me? There was a time when stories continually ran through my head & when ideas flowed. What happened? I think what may partly be happening is that the lack of interest in my first two books has left me wondering ~ why bother? I don’t want to write for myself! Maybe this is a test from God. Will I persevere despite the lack of interest? Or will I be a quitter? So far it seems like I’m leaning toward the being a quitter. Sigh…

I’m just as guilty of this as the next person ~ looking at someone and deciding whether they dress right, act right, say the right things, are worthy of my time & attention, etc., etc. How easy it is to decide against someone just because they aren’t like us! “I wouldn’t wear that!” “I would never say that!” “What a loser he/she is!” But guess what? We don’t have the right to judge someone. Why can’t we just accept people for what they are? Why do we have to think less of them because they aren’t a carbon copy of US? We all do it. Judge. Belittle in our thoughts. Think more highly of ourselves than we ought to. I’ve been in church, standing next to someone and we’re praising & worshipping the Lord, when someone walks in and sits near us. “Look at what she’s wearing. She looks dumb in that.” I can’t imagine that that kind of attitude is pleasing to the Lord. He doesn’t look at the outside. He sees our hearts. Why can’t we do the same?

My prayer is that God would slap me along side my head when I even begin to judge another. Because it is WRONG!!

a few poems ’cause it’s National Poetry Month!!

That shining moon – watched by that one faint star:

Sure now am I, beyond the fear of change,

The lovely in life is the familiar,

And only the lovelier for continuing strange.

I felt a cleavage in my mind

As if my brain had split;

I tried to match it, seam by seam,

But could not make them fit.

The thought behind I strove to join

Unto the thought before,

But sequence ravelled out of reach

Like balls upon a floor.

Do Not Be Afraid

God’s power

to your weakness

God’s light

to your darkness

God’s love

to your loneliness

God’s care

to your troubles

God’s peace

to your distress

God’s eternity

Fill your life.

ready to toss facebook out the window…

It’s too easy for mis-understandings to occur via facebook & myspace. I’ve had more trouble since I signed on. I’m thinking about trashing them both! Anyone else out there experienced offenses, mis-understandings, & hurt feelings due to these mediums? (well, not them ‘per se.’ it’s what’s being said among “friends” that is causing the problems!)

CHARTLESS ~ Emily Dickinson

I never saw a moor,

I never saw the sea;

Yet know I how the heather looks,

And what a wave must be.

I never spoke with God,

Nor visited in heaven;

Yet certain am I of the spot

As if the chart were given.
